The concept of this piece is the unification and consequent destruction of the binary that is being christian or being gay. Because, for quite a while, people have basically believed that one can only be one or the other, while I strongly believe this isn’t the case.
The only reason this is so is because of the church itself, with its overly strong beliefs. But things can change over time. The church has grown to accept (kind of) women as equals, protestants as equals, and Irishmen as equals, so I wouldn’t be surprised that in the near future, that gay people will also be accepted as equals.
The perpetuation of the hatred in general society is, at the core, human nature and its fear of differences. However, to have such a strong and influential authoritative institution increasing the levels of this hatred is, as a gay christian, a shame.
Children who grow up in conservative households, and their peers who also grow up in conservative households, learn that being gay is wrong, because, at the core, the church says so. This causes bullying, self-hatred, and, in some cases, suicide.
This needs to stop. It needs to stop now, and we need to do something, as a generation, to stop it.
I painted this piece because I saw some posts here on tumblr (this post and this post), and I know many people are going through this struggle themselves (myself included). All I can hope is that this piece can speak to someone, and help them in their journey.

Arson burns down lesbians’ home.
Carol Ann and Laura Stutte are a same-sex couple who have been together for more than 16 years. They celebrated an anniversary weekend, only to return to find that their dream home has been burned to the ground in an anti- gay hate crime. Their insurance company definitely delayed payment on the damages.
In September, an arsonist destroyed their home to mere ashes, leaving only a garage standing. On the side of the garage, the arsonists spray-painted the word “QUEERS” in big, black letters. A month before the arson, Carol Ann and Laura received several homophobic threats, including being told by a neighbor:
“Do you know what is better than one dead queer? Two dead queers.”
Five months after their house was torched to the ground, Carol Ann and Laura have not received a single penny from their home insurance company — American National Property and Casualty (ANPAC). Facing financial disaster, the Stuttes have been forced to make mortgage payments and insurance payments — or else be dropped by the company.

Just watched Grey’s. Who is she and why was she so distracting during the whole episode?
Every time she was on screen I wanted to focus on what was going on, instead I was just staring at her and wondering why am i not on top of her and oh god she is SO HOT.
